Position Overview:
The Director of the Saint Mary’s Fund will promote a culture of philanthropy for Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota by building a comprehensive annual giving program.  This program is the cornerstone of the development program and must establish and maintain a thriving donor base; developing, implementing and subsequently evaluating an annual giving fundraising plan for all university constituents. Giving vehicles include telephone, direct mail, electronic solicitations, face-to-face and event-focused solicitation strategy and execution for alumni, parents, students, and friends of the university. The Director of the Saint Mary’s Fund reports to the Vice President, Development and Alumni Relations.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Development Team, establish a plan to build a comprehensive annual giving program, which includes annual giving for all constituents, targeted special events, and corporate sponsorships.
  • Create an annual renewal, upgrade, and new donor acquisition plan to be carried out in partnership with the department’s annual development plan.
  • Develop, implement and evaluate the annual fund program - employing various fund raising methods in order to meet and exceed established annual fund goals.
  • Effectively identify and engage volunteers to ensure success of the annual fund to include creating and managing students and volunteers for various constituency giving campaigns (faculty/staff, parents, current student, alumni, trustee, reunion giving and others as deemed necessary).
  • Responsible for overseeing and implementing marketing materials needed for all annual fundraising efforts to include all constituent campaigns and university strategic initiatives.
  • Successfully cultivate, solicit, and steward a donor portfolio of 50+ benefactors.
  • Annually prepare a budget and plan that is connected to the university’s mission and vision and which complies with industry Return on Investment (ROI) standards.
  • Works within budgetary guidelines and restraints, assuring effective strategies with given resources.
  • Provides continuous and frequent updates on the status of projects and activities to the VP, through the proper use of metrics-based decision-making and oversight.  Produces fundraising reports on a monthly basis and modifies programs and methods accordingly in order to reach annual giving goals.
  • With the Assistant Director of Saint Mary’s Fund and Alumni Relations, develop, implement and evaluate a senior class annual giving program to begin with incoming freshman – continuing each year and culminating in a signature senior class gift to the university.
  • Plan, implement and evaluate a faculty/staff annual giving program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required and three-five years of advancement experience preferred with emphasis on annual giving, leadership giving, and volunteer management. Masters of Arts in Philanthropy & Development preferred, as well as the CFRE accreditation.
  • Experience managing staff and volunteer team members.
  • Strong management and supervisory skills.
  • Proven fundraising track record, ability to manage and guide volunteers, and a strong sense for team collaboration.
  • Must have strong organizational and event management skills, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Experience and aptitude with various computer software applications and platforms (including Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Raisers Edge).
  • Must be able to exercise sound judgment, and work in a professional and ethical manner.
  • Must be able to work with highly sensitive and confidential information.
  • Able to work nights and weekends to staff reunions and other events.
  • Must be willing and able to travel.
