Development Officer

American Players Theatre is searching for a dynamic and enthusiastic fundraiser to join its development team.  The team currently consists of two development officers (the new hire would be a third) and a donor relations manager. The development officer will report to the Director of Communications and work closely with the Managing Director.

The charge of the development officer is to identify, engage, cultivate, solicit, and steward current and prospective donors in their financial support for American Players Theatre. They will be responsible for building and managing a portfolio of donors and potential donors, largely drawn from APT’s current audience/donor base but also from corporate, foundation and other individual sources. They will work with existing donors in establishing an ever-deepening relationship with APT, and must also cultivate and solicit new donors.

The successful candidate will thrive in a very highly collaborative environment, both within the development department and throughout the organization. They should crave getting to know people and talking to them about APT (therefore, excellent verbal and written skills will be necessary). They will be a task-oriented person who is driven by goals, both internal and external. They will have a proven track record in gift solicitation and be able to demonstrate previous successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship efforts. Since most constituents visit APT on evenings and weekends, the successful candidate should be in a position to work a flexible schedule that includes ample night and weekend hours, especially June through November. Prior knowledge of and enthusiasm for American Players Theatre is a plus.

This is a full-time, exempt position with benefits and the salary is commensurate with experience.

American Players Theatre is a professional theater located just outside Spring Green, Wisconsin. The APT Foundation, established in 2013 just passed the $1 million mark ahead of schedule. The theater is in the midst of strategic planning which will conclude at the end of 2018.
